Mejia (community development block)

Mejia (community development block) is an administrative division in Bankura Sadar subdivision of Bankura district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Mejia police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Mejia.Government of West Bengal has planned a Special Economic Zone in Saltora. It is on NH 60 connecting Raniganj with Midnapore via Bankura and Bishnupur. There is a bridge on the Damodar River. It is 35 km from Durgapur.

Geography

Mejia is located at 23°34′N 87°06′E / 23.57°N 87.10°E / 23.57; 87.10. It has an average elevation of 77 m (253 ft).

Mejia community development block has an area of 162.90  km².

In the 2001 census, Mejia community development block had a population of 76,117 out of which 39,518 were males and 36,599 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 9.85% for Mejia, against 13.79% in Bankura district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%.

Mejía Canton

Mejía is a canton in the province of Pichincha in northern Ecuador. It is named after Ecuadorian political figure José Mejía Lequerica. The canton includes a volcano in the Central Cordillera of the Ecuadorian Andes called Rumiñahui. The seat of the canton is called Machachi.

Machachi is located to the south of the capital of Ecuador, Quito. It is a very beautiful city surrounded by the volcanos Atacazo, Corazon, Rumiñahui, Illinizas peaks, Viudita hill, Pasochoa, Sincholagua and is also owns part of the Cotopaxi volcano, a great active volcano which measures 5,897 m (19,347 ft) in altitude. The valley contains 8 volcanoes, the reasons why Alexander von Humboldt named the region Avenue of Volcanoes.

In the Panzaleo language it means: Great active land. Machachi is the cradle of many slopes and the same ground is a perennial thermal and mineral water outcrop. In the fertile valleys of San Pedro there are approximately 22 sources of chemicals which have invaluable theurapeutical properties.

Gabriela (1983 film)

Gabriela is a 1983 Brazilian romance film directed by Bruno Barreto. It was shot in the cities of Paraty, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and in Garopaba, Santa Catarina.

Plot

It is 1925. Nacib (Mastroianni) is the owner of bar in a small town. He meets Gabriela (Braga), a sensual girl, who he is immediately attracted to. Taken by her, he hires her on as a cook. However, Nacib soon grows annoyed by the attention she receives. He proposes to her in the hopes that the attention quells.

After their marriage, he insists that she dress and behave more prudishly so that men are not so enamored of her. Unfortunately, Gabriela cannot help but stray and Nacib is forced to annul the marriage when he finds her in bed with his friend Tonico (Cantafora). Later, as both Nacib and the town begin to undergo a transformation, Nacib takes in Gabriela as his mistress.
